There are no new variation of weapon oils in WoTLK, so please dont dispose of any netherbloom or nightmare vine. Send them to the guild bank if you can. I will be sending the ~200+ arcane dust I have to the guild bank for crafting needs.

Sharpening Stones and also Wizard Oils have been discontinued. While they were something nice to use once in a while for most people for many raid guilds they were simply another burden to the cost of raiding. They also caused some issues in that they only helped certain classes and took away some of the uniqueness of other classes who were able to imbue their weapons with temporary enchants such as rogues and warlocks.

What the...firestone became useful?!? Firestone spec isn't pointless anymore?!?

So, for priests, if there's a shaman in the raid, do you no longer need a weapon oil?

I mean, technically speaking aren't weapon oils still better, because you are guaranteed to get them 100% of the fight?

If you try to apply Oils and Stones to new weapons from Wrath, you will get a "Target is too high level". The tool tips don't reflect this (as I recall), but basically Blizzard intends for us to outgrow using them by the time you are raiding at 80. I am not exactly sure where the cutoff point is (in regards to ilvl on weapons), as I burned up all my oil while leveling.

Once you get a new weapon, you can no longer use them.

Shaman no longer have any totems that put a buff on your weapon. Shaman still have their self-only weapon buffs (and a new one: Earthliving). Firestones and Spellstones have become weapon enchants and rogues still have poisons.

You can still make the old ones, and they can be put on weaps prior to northrend.

So they will be useful for twinks, and people levelling up.

But...this was the ONLY consumable in usage that Blacksmiths could make. And we didn't even make that many of them! I assume the shield buffs are useless as well? Absolute rubbish that - we don't even get some form of armor enchant like Leatherworkers!

I have begun to loathe my profession...

But you get an amazing new "consumable" in the form of the Eternal Belt Buckle (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=41611). I guess it's not a "consumable" persay but it's something that everyone is going to need.

Don't forget that you can now add two gem sockets to your gear. This is far more amazing than what you would get with other professions, such as Tailoring and Engineering (though I'd argue that Engineering is more of a gathering profession nowadays).

Enchanting lets you enchant your rings. (+19 spellpower each I believe)

Tailoring gives you an embroidery for your cloak which is pretty good. (chance to restore 300 mana on spell cast I think)
